I need a Merry Christmas this year...

Merry Christmas!
The blue is not completely on purpose.  I feel totally in the mood and am looking forward to the holiday, but...
I miss my heavenly family - Dad, Jo & Steve - and since we didn't really feel like celebrating last year because Steve left us too soon, I really feel like I need to celebrate the hell out of Christmas this year.
Okay, this is the best green they have, apparently, with this new format (which I really don't like yet, but this is my first experience, so we will give it a whirl, eh?)
So many things have happened this year - I know, I say that every year! - that I don't know what all to put into this message.
We have been truly blessed in 2013, even though we have lost good friends and family.  I thank God every day for carrying us all through the first year of losing Steve, and I think he would be pleased at how well we have mustered through the pain.  Steve loved to laugh, and I find myself saying a prayer to him every time I laugh or hear laughter. I hope that some of our escapades this year have made him laugh with us.
Mom has been in very good health this year.  We had one scare with her blood sugar dropping dangerously low, but we changed her meds and she has had no problems with that again.  Her knees did not keep her from her annual Battle of the Weeds, and, actually, I was very surprised at how much she did!  At 91, now, she is still our Wonder Woman! She did lose her car this year, but only because it was too expensive to fix, so she volunteered to give it up.  She won't drive any other car - they are all too modern and technical for her, even though we promise that they are easier to drive.  She and I are adjusting into a routine now that I have to do the shopping with and without her, and run those many errands she always did for us - I didn't realize what a gadabout she was!!
Phil, Michele, and Joseph seem to be settled right into their new lives in Mesa. I was thrilled to be able to go visit them in November to see their new house!  It is beautiful and so comfortable!  I am so happy for them! Joseph received the Lumberjack scholarship to NAU!  I am a very proud Lumber Jill! Go Jacks!!! And WAY TO GO JOE!!!
Allison got married this summer - and I got to marry her...well officiate the wedding, I mean! She was the most beautiful bride, and the wedding they put together was a zillion times better than any wedding planner could have done. I am so proud of them both!

I love the pictures that the pro took of them, but I haven't seen all of the pictures taken by the people who attended.

They are coming for Christmas - as is Mitchell and his GF Holly!  Can't wait!

I need to say more, but time flies...I will come back soon (I heard that "Yeah, right!")

and the hits just keep on coming...

Wow, I thought I was bored before!

Yes, I have work to do - busy work. I cleaned off my desk already. I worked on an ongoing project, but couldn't concentrate.

We are on our last day before the holiday (no, CHRISTMAS!) break, and all of us are feeling the need to be on vacation already. The first two hours of work this morning felt like 12 years, then we decided to play a video in one of the classrooms to pass the time. That lasted about 1/4 of the way through Notting Hill when I had to go to lunch and the phones actually started ringing a bit. I have a placement test and a meeting with an industrial maintenance program director this afternoon, so things are looking up!

Still, I think the rest of the day will last about another 10 or 12 years...

God, if I am this bored with a job to do (with things I need to be doing), how am I going to survive the CHRISTMAS break with nothing to do?
VERY WELL INDEED!!!

End of another year...

Well, the semester is about to end (tomorrow!) and Winter Break is so soon I can feel my body relaxing already! Actually, I am having trouble concentrating at work because my brain is insisting I am on break now.

Fall 2011 was a trying one for me, career-wise. I have been so frustrated at work. Co-workers, too much work, and a demanding boss rolled into too little help and employee problems have left me exhausted emotionally. It all came to a head a few weeks ago (right after Thanksgiving), when I finally decided that I wasn't going to give them all the satisfaction of knowing my feelings were hurt or that they were stressing me (one person was actually enjoying making me squirm). Since then, they have backed off, or at the least, I have not noticed so much their attempts to upset me.

Never thought I would pay into the whole mind-over-matter thinking!

Christmas is going to be quiet this year, with my brothers and niece going away for the holidays. Just my ex-brother-in-law will be here with Mom and I, which will be nice and quiet. I want to be boring for the holiday break and get some rest. I want to read Stephen King's new book and make some jewelry. One of my employees said I should have a private sale, but I have no stock right now. I have a lot of beads building up, so she is right. Maybe I will have a jewelry show!

My next door neighbor passed on Sunday. She was in the delivery room when I was born - the first person to hold me after the doctor pulled me out. She has always been there, and I keep feeling this horrible void now that she is gone. I will go to the Rosary at the Catholic Church when they have it, mostly because she would have liked that, and I made so many rosaries for her and her family. It will help me say goodbye, beyond the funeral services. RIP Mary - I love you so much!

Cold and clear - looking out the huge picture windows at work, I could almost believe it was warm out there with all of that sunshine. But I am deceived! she says in her best LOTR's evil voice. The temperature at 11am is 36F without a windchill factor. But is is beautiful!

So, no funny quips or content today. I feel bored, though!!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Bloggers! Be safe and give your love as often as you can: that is the greatest present you can give to yourself!

Scariest thing about this Halloween…

The scariest thing about this Halloween is how long I have been sick. I have been out of work since Tuesday, with a what I thought was a bad cold, but instead was Strep throat – which I didn’t find out I had until Thursday.  I could have gone on my trip to Phoenix if I had gone to the doctor on Tuesday like Mom said!

I hate it when she is right!

So I am home, coughing up green stuff, drinking herbal teas, and grumpy as a tortured ghost.  Some little Brownie Scouts in costume came by today about 1pm and I started to chew them out for trick-or-treating on the day before Halloween, and so early in the day.  I got their candy anyway, only to find out that they were asking for canned food! I felt so bad that I gave them an overflowing bag of stuff!

Sorry girls, you caught me in my “monster” costume!

I feel better, too, which makes it all the worse. I could be in a theater watching a scary movie right now, or playing board games with horror-movie themes.  “Scene It” has a horror movie app out right now, and I promised my friend Deb that I wouldn’t play it until I was with her.  Sorry, Deb, but I am going to have to look at it now!

So, no earth-shattering news here, as usual.

Farewell Dearest

This morning a bright star appeared in Heaven. My sister journeyed ahead of us, to light our way when we follow. I wish I was as resigned to her fate as she was. She never faltered in her resolve, courage and desire to keep the rest of us from mourning her.

I dread the day we place her earthly shell into the ground. Our coporeal selves are what we protect and comfort, keeping each other warm and snug. I wish I had comforted her more.

Goodnight Dearest. Godspeed your journey on ahead of us.

Computers suck

My computer needs a new motherboard. Each of my 3 USB ports went out one-by-one, & even though my computer still basically functions I can't back up any thing or print or even sync my iPod! Grrr!
My sister got better news. She does have pancreatic cancer but they think it and the eight tumors in her abdomen are treatable with chemo. Gives her a little longer. Damn it, if she'd only gone to a gastro sooner!

Hard days...

My sister was dx'd w/ pancreatic cancer this week, & its spread to her liver & abdomen already. They give her about 3-6 months. My cousin Robbie died suddenly at 40 yesterday. This is just a horrible week. I can't wait to get back to work to get some normalcy!
I never even ventured outside today, so I have no nature to talk about. My dog cuddled w/ me though this afternoon, so that was good! Tomorrow I brave Wally World.
Meager thoughts today indeed...

On becoming a teacher...

I made it (barely) thru my first semester as an instructor at CCC in Page, AZ.
I loved it for the most part, but had some plagiarism issues. I will probably go overboard this semester trying to instill honesty in my new students, but hey, they need it too.
Busy as all get-out, but loving it,

Women over 35 are more likely to be killed by a terrorist than to get married...?

You've heard it, right? Think back to Sleepless in Seattle and the coffee break scene where the publishers discuss a book that says that women over 35 are more likely to be killed by a terrorist than to get married. I have seen it in other movies and on TV too. I hear my friends discussing it, around the water coolers, at dinner, at dinner parties. I have never read the book, or an article, that actually claims this "Fact", but virtually everyone I know "knows" it for a fact. When the subject comes up, I reach for the tortilla chips or the mint chocolate chip ice cream to comfort my empty heart.

I got divorced when I was 26, and thought I had the whole world in front of me, certain that I would have to fight off marriage proposals left and right in order to maintain my hard-fought independence. All my friends predicted that I would be married again within a couple of years (these are the same friends who predicted that I would be pregnant before my HS graduation, then pregnant before I was 20 - and before I was married: I married at 20 and have never been pregnant). So I entered the Dating Zone in the prime of my life and thought I had the whole world and all of Time in front of me.

I dated a lot. Only one got kind of serious, but never even to the "I Love You" phase, probably because of my neurotic need to maintain that independence and to prove wrong my friends who wished me cornered again so quickly. While my friends were having babies, getting divorced and remarrying at an alarming rate (how do these women find and marry men so easily? And where do they find them? Please write the address down for me...), I am flitting from one New Interest to the Next-Best-Thing, but never finding The Best Thing, which was fine as I pursued my career and found The Perfect Apartment. I got a dog. But really what I got was an empty, lonely life.

I quit my job and went back to college at 36, moving into a dormitory at the university. On the outside and to anyone who asked, I did not move into the dormitory to do the Meet Boys thing (you can hear my foot stomping in protest here). I was a serious student on a fast track to my BS and then my MA degrees. Inwardly, though, I wonder, now that I am out of school, if I was hoping to Meet Boys, subconsciously? I tried to be Hip and keep up with my much younger dorm-mates, and, thankfully, very, very few ever made me feel old enough to be their mother, though I very quickly earned the moniker "Aunt Jane", which I had at home too (I have loads of nieces, nephews, great-nieces -nephews).

I never once went on a date in the 6 years it took for me to get my degrees.

Oh, I was asked, but my old Protective Shield had learned its lesson all too well, and I turned down any serious offer. The Shield that had kept me from letting relationships become too serious in my late 20s and early 30s had grown into a Force Field of Resistance that repelled even offers of coffee!

No wonder I remained single! I sought solace in my hard-won independence in food (what else do you do when you are alone?), and soon gained much, much more than the Freshmen 15, most likely as a subconscious defense mechanism: if I was overweight, men wouldn't want me, right? I couldn't get hurt by peeking around the Shield or venturing outside of the Force Field if no one invited me, right? I knew these clichés of psychology, knew that was why I reached every time for the Baskin Robbins instead of my gym card, but I was powerless to stop myself. I knew it in my head, but couldn't know it in my Here-And-Now, until I was 45, still single, and had a good Chubby going on. Until I came down with a life-altering disease, with no one to pick me up when I fell.

I ended up becoming that statistic: still single and 45, and terrorists lurk much more closely than ever before. I wasted all of those years adamantly demanding my independence instead of finding someone with whom I could share my life. I could have shared my life with a companion, a soul-mate, a lover, instead of having a great apartment, a dog, or a paper diploma on my wall. A companion could have helped me hang the diploma (straight), could have been proud with me for my accomplishment. Instead I wasted time too long, and became the statistic.

I am still looking for that book, or that article, that says that women over 35, or 45 in my case, are more likely to be killed by a terrorist than to find true love. I guess all along I should have been looking for True Love instead of looking for the book...

...a little less boring today...

Things here are going surprisingly well. I hate to say that for fear of Jinx showing up, but I have to trust Good Fortune sometimes, right?

Marty: the little stinker is WELL - all capitals. All tests are normal and with the new diet (low-fat, low-residue digestive formula) he is flourishing. Understand, this is a dog who was so picky about his food that he sometimes wouldn't take a steak if you hand fed it to him (and believe me, we tried!) He never ate doggie treats (Milk Bones, etc.) until we discovered the Chicken Jerky treats, and even then he wouldn't always eat them. About the only thing he WOULD eat regularly was the rosemary off of my plant in the yard (weird, huh? The vet said it wouldn't hurt him, and actually made his breath smell nice, and he rubbed himself all over it, so HE smelled nice too! But, I always feel hungry around him...) Anyway, he wouldn't eat this special food either, but the vet insisted that we not give him one other thing, that Marty would eat it eventually, when he got hungry enough.

So, nearly a week passed, all the while Marty is taking 3 antibiotics, a steroid, Reglan (like Tagamet or Prilosec, only more expensive), and a vitamin pill designed like an acidophilus to keep his digestion in track. I was shoving so many pills down the poor guy's throat it was no wonder he wasn't hungry. We also had to force-feed him - I shoved food into his mouth, held his mouth closed, and waited for him to swallow. About 2 tablespoons at a time, three times a day.

One day, about a week after we discovered the poison, he took the food out of my hand without my having to shove, then a week later, he would take the first bite from my hand, then eat the rest off of the plate (he STILL won't eat the food if it is in his "dog food bowl"), then after another 10 days or so, he would eat the food off of the plate.

Now? Now we can't get the plate to the floor fast enough! I heat the food just a little (10 seconds in the microwave) and put it on the floor by his "dog food bowl" and he has his face in the dish before it hits the ground! He scarfs it up in seconds (and he is eating 1/2 a cup at a time!) He also started eating a 1/2 cup of his dry dog food (same formula) if we sprinkle a tablespoon of low-fat chicken broth on it (the vet said that was okay). Now we don't have to do that, he eats it down like candy.

Candy? Well, the company that makes his special food (Royal Canin) makes a hard treat (like a Milk Bone) out of the same formula. We tried them, and now he can't get enough, and eats them like crazy.

He had his "regular" checkup yesterday - rabies & parvo shots, nails trimmed - and Dr. J and his staff couldn't make over him more. He is down three pounds from his top weight, just hovering above his ideal weight by 1.5 pounds. His coat is shiny, his eyes are clear, and the vet couldn't get a stomach growl even with Marty terrified of being at the Pain Place. Marty has always loved Dr. J and the girls, even when they are hurting him, and still greets them like family. He doesn't like the new vet so much, but I share that sentiment - the new guy is right out of residency and is eager to try every new technique and treatment he learned, even if the case doesn't warrant it. Marty had the little teeth between his two bottom fangs pulled out last Spring by the new vet, when he told my mom that the jaw was getting soft and he would eventually have periodontal disease if they left those teeth in. Well, I would never have agreed to them being pulled, but I was in bed sick when Mom took him. I was furious, as there are other, less drastic measures to try first before pulling the teeth. Marty suffered horrible for weeks when I don't think he had to. Dr. J agreed a little, but was afraid to say too much, as he hired this kid to inherit his practice when he retires. Dr New Guy was very instrumental in getting Marty over the poisoning, though, so I am more inclined to accept him, but Marty still doesn't like him much.

So he takes Mom on her walks every morning, pulling her along and coming home so full of himself! He eats like a pig, and is getting his playfulness back - so much so that he hurt one of the "toes" on his paw, getting the claw caught in the carpeting. He limped a couple of days, but is over it now. Dr. J prodded the toe and didn't get a response out of him. Marty still holds that paw up with a pained expression on his face every time he wants something! He learned all too quickly how to make Mom and I jump through hoops. Last night he insisted that he didn't get enough dinner, and sat between Mom and I and the television, ears back, eyebrows furrowed, and that paw in the air. He was hysterical, especially since it was the wrong paw!

Mom: other that Marty taking her for walks every day, she is doing so much better. When the doctor threatened insulin shots if she couldn't keep her diabetes under control, we battened down the hatches and now eat a 98% diabetic diet (I am not, but it runs in the family, my oldest brother recently diagnosed at 59). I had a little high cholesterol (not high enough for medicines, but high enough to keep an eye on it), so Mom cut down her carbs and I cut down the cholesterol. I eat oatmeal for breakfast every day, drink Promise Activ (in the yogurt section, it has plant sterols that clean your system of cholesterol), and we eat more soy beans in the form of Edamame which I shell and put in everything. I love them for snacks, and actually got Mom hooked on them too. I put them in salads, make a wicked Edamame salad, and add them to my burritos when Mom makes her pinto beans. I use Soy milk or Lactaid (lactose intolerance is a "bonus" with my MS).

I had a follow-up blood test on Monday, so we will see if my efforts are rewarded. Mom had hers last Friday, and just yesterday the doctor called and told her she was way better, and to keep it up. She has more energy now, too, though she attributes that to Marty dragging her out every morning! We cheat about every 10 days or so and have Mexican food at our favorite restaurant, and I have sushi every other week (we got a place in town that gets one-day-old fresh fish everyday!) Mom also has fat-free frozen yogurt every other week from the ice cream parlor, but I had to stop getting it (lactose again).

Mom turned 85 in September, and she acts 70. People are always shocked to hear how old she really is. I am so proud of her, and so proud to be her daughter. She is the best roommate I could ever ask for, and I have had plenty! We giggle like kids, hold each other when we cry, and take care of each other when we are sick. Thank God we haven't yet been sick at the same time! We get along like two old broads, sitting in our recliners watching the Diamondbacks (GO D-BACKS!!!!!) and the Suns, she doing her crossword puzzles and me doing my beading.

So there - pretty boring, huh? At least I had something to say for a change, even if it is only interesting to me!

Bored and boring...

Okay, so blogs are not always the most entertaining reads in the world, but what happens when your life is so mundane that you even have nothing to blog about?
I read a blog the other day by a guy who listed his recent grocery receipt on his blog: the items, one-by-one and their prices, his total and that he paid cash. That was it - the whole blog! And I thought I was bored - and boring!

i read another where the guy i think it was a guy as he she talked about getting fitted for a tux wrote about 500 words no punctuation all run together kinda like this only on and on and on and his spelling was horrible and except for the tux which he never said what it was for i really didnt comprehend what any point was if he made one at all but i did make it through the whole thing and then realized that even if i was bored reading that blog was a major waste of time energy and brain cells and i still cant figure out what the other guy was going to make with the odd assortment of food he bought per his receipt or what i am going to make for my own dinner tonight oh yeah it is teriyaki chicken except i dont use pineapple on account of being allergic to it and ally is now allergic as well poor kid took after me that way

Okay, you get the point - ugh! And I thought I was bored - and boring!

I am starting to feel pretty good about myself...

Then I read a blog where a woman this time vented continuously about all of the girls who wronged her in high school. Now, this would not seem unusual coming from a girl, say, less than 25 years old, and perhaps odd but not too disturbing for someone less than 30 years old. But this woman claimed to be 52 years old! She checked off probably every girl in her yearbook, one at a time, sometimes in groups, but always viscously scathing. I, of course, picture "Carrie" (the Sissy Spacek version) with the pig's blood dripping from her hair, typing in her rants. To be so bitter after all of this time! And never once does she say what or who she is now, just leaving the impression of a vitriolic, aging shrew with no life whatsoever.

And I thought I was bored - and boring!

Actually, when you think about it, I guess I am pretty boring when all I have to do is wander the Internet reading about other people's boredoms.

Super Bowl Sunday

So I usually only watch the super bowl for the commercials, but Da Bears were playing this year, and the last time I actually enjoyed watching the super bowl was when I won $3,000 in a pool when Da Bears won in '85. I hoped that they would bring the magic of "interest" back, since I didn't bet this time around. Good thing, since they lost. The first half of the game was good, though?
So, to keep the game interesting, I kept a "log" of what happened, first downs, good plays, injuries, and, of course, the commercials.
Is anyone else disappointed in the commercials? I was so psyched and none were good enough to cause a real belly laugh or heart strings tugged to tears. I liked the Blockbuster ad with the "mouse" best, and was disappointed that CBS tied GoDaddy's hands to the point of allowing one of the most mundane ads during the game. The Sierra Mist combover and the Snickers commercials were gross, and the Chevy college student's ad was forgettable (I saw the special about the different ads proposed and at least two were WAY better). The Doritos ad made by amateurs was really good, considering it was better than any ad Doritos has presented since the laundry mat ad. And I LOVED the stray dog who ends up "becoming" a Budweiser dog! How cute was that?
I am glad for Peyton Manning - he really did do a great job after the first quarter. And I am sorry for the Bears fans that the teams' defensive line (and offensive line) were so weak - heck, they are USED to playing in adverse conditions, but they seemed to be bloopering from the rain more than the Colts - who play in a dome! OOPS! Maybe the Bears were just celebrating the fact that they were ALREADY at Disney World (or close to it) so they didn't need to win? Or that they were not where it was snowing and subzero? Grossman acted like he was hurrying to get to his fishing boat, rather than make good plays, and his offensive linemen were watching the cheerleaders? I was disappointed, could you tell?
So I made it fun by "dissecting" it, but was disappointed by both the game and the ads, so it was a wasted afternoon. Thank goodness Criminal Minds was a good episode (except I hate cliffhangers).

Phoenix Suns

Are the Suns the best thing in Arizona sports ever? Okay, the D-Backs winning the World Series was better, and that they won it against the Yankees was the best, but I am all for not living in the past. That said, the Suns are awesome! They have made Arizona sports fun to watch again, and I am not a great fan of basketball. Lute Olsen and his Wildcats are Gems of this state, but the Suns are "outshining" them this year. And Steve Nash is MVP again, so far as I am concerned!

Enough about sports - oh wait, there is this Randy Johnson thing! I welcome Randy back, wholeheartedly, though I still think that if the management got rid of Gonzo because he was an aging player who cost too much, how can they justify getting another aging player who costs even more? Their whole reason for booting Gonzo is moot. Gonzo was, in my opinion, the best D-Back we have ever had, because of his skill AND because of his mentoring of younger players AND because of his superb relationship and philanthropy to the state of Arizona. Randy, I welcome you heartily and hope you find peace as you finish your career here. To Mr. Kendrick and his lot: you have been very unconvincing to me, for one, that you actually care about the D-Backs organization further than your own pockets. If you want to convince me and others I know who feel the same, start meaning what you say, and doing what you say you mean. So far you have done neither.

Okay, now I am done with the sports thing. Really. Which brings me to my next topic: I have nothing else to say today.

Happy New Year

It must be astounding how many blogs out there have "Happy New Year" or some form of the phrase in the title or first line of the first post of the year. I, too, can think of no more clever title today, still recovering from the food, drink, late nights, food - oops - and festivities. Actually, I caught a cold from some anonymous Christmas shopper at Flagstaff Mall. I think what I have hacked up has been as colorful as the wrapping paper in the dumpster.

Gearing up for my Comps this semester. I haven't received the specs from Chuck and Cindy, but I have been reading whenever I can from the books I think/know they will require. I feel confident one minute, then terrified the next. Mostly I keep telling myself that it probably doesn't matter how I do on the tests, since I will probably never be able to use my degree anyway, because of the disability. MS sucks.

Resolutions? Nope. They are only failures waiting to happen. I try every day, so I don't need a holiday to add to my frustration.

Looking forward to movies expected this summer - Pan's Labyrinth sounds fun, and Spidey3 too. I am an old-time Nancy Drew fan, so it might be interesting, except that they have made it more of a parody of how "square" she is/was. Why not just update it to today's standards, or make it a period piece? Pirates, Fantastic 4/Surfer, Transformers, Harry Potter (last gasp), Hairspray, The Last Mimzy, The Number 23 - these so far I look forward to this year. Maybe that is my resolution this year...to actually SEE the movies I look forward to instead of missing them like this past year!

Favorite book today? "Mister God, This is Anna" still ranks up there. I haven't read much but textbooks for so long, I am beginning to think my favorites have "(fill-in-the-blank) University Press" as the publishers.

I love, still, Raiders of the Lost Ark, but am horrified that Ford and Spielberg are making a 4th, considering Ford is too old (sad, but true). Raiders of the Geriatric Ward?

Cheers

Page - Lake Powell Balloon Fesitval day 2

What a fun day! I got up (with combed hair this time!) and got some great pics of the balloons. There were a lot more of them and they all seem to crawl right up Elm Street! I also got to go to the Street Fair this year and to the Balloon Glow last night. I was absolutely exhausted when I got home, but, boy, did I have a TERRIFIC time!

This is the "ship" my niece goes up with every year, and last night I got to meet her pilot, Doug. He was very fun, and I can see why S. likes to fly with him so much. Thanks to the Ranch House Grille in Page (hugs Mary Jane and Phil!) for bringing Doug and his crew every year!

There were loads more, and I am putting them on my Flickr page at http://www.flickr.com/photos/nauauntie/

Happy Flying!

2006 Page - Lake Powell Balloon Festival

Today is the first day of the Page - Lake Powell Balloon Festival 2006. I had forgotten about it when I went to bed last night, but was awakened this morning by that unmistakable sound of the fires being "stoked".
I grabbed my camera to run outside, then went back to put decent clothes on, and went out, hair every which way but normal, and took some pics. Marty, my dog, kept freaking out, to the point that when the meter man came by later, Marty was too afraid to go outside to play with him like he usually does.
The day could not have been nicer - very few stringy clouds, a blue, blue sky, and absolutely no wind. Several of the balloons landed on the streets, which makes me wonder if the winds were too calm (I know nothing about ballooning, so this may just be my ignorance flaring!). It was fun to watch one just down the street land and break down, roll up and be done for the day.

One chase crew truck drove by slowly, and I asked the crew where they were landing. The driver said "Heck if I know" and the passenger said "North Dakota". One balloonist who spent an hour hovering over my house asked if she could land on my house. I told her she could but she would have to buy us a new roof in exchange for breakfast.
I heard two balloonists talking back and forth. Again, being ignorant of all things ballooning, I never considered they would talk (or somewhat yell) back and forth.
I can't wait for tomorrow. I will try to set my alarm and drive over to the rim to watch them take off, and tomorrow night is the "Balloon Glow" on our main street, Lake Powell Boulevard, where a day-long Street Fair is being held.
Up, up and away!

Hey Josh, what are your kitties doing?

For my nephew, Josh, who just got two kitties.
This is an adorable picture, but will you ever use "those" toothbrushes again? I know your kitties get on your bathroom sink (remember, you sent me a picture of that!), so I would keep this in mind!
Actually, I thought this was hysterical. And I am really glad I have a dog who can't navigate his way to the top of the sink!

6 More Weeks of Winter...

Well, we could use less of this "winter" and more of a true Winter. Arizona is drying up and Hell will truly visit us this Summer, if we don't get rain and snow soon, and lots of it. I can hardly imagine how awful the fires are going to be this summer. I talked to someone today whose daughter is getting married in Phoenix in July. I told her they will have to wear gas masks to breathe because of all of the smoke (not to mention, could they have picked a HOTTER month?)

We went to the new Super Wal-Mart today. I had to take a nap when I got home! This is not going to be fun. We were amazed at the grocery prices though, and being on fixed incomes, it will help loads! I fear that Bashas' will go under soon.

Super Bowl tomorrow. I am cheering for the commericials.
